Travel Tips: Mind Your Money

7/1/2022

Planning a vacation? After working hard all year, it’s time for some relaxation and fun. To help you keep your money safe and your vacation enjoyable, we’ve prepared these helpful travel tips.

Use Credit, Limit Cash

Bring some cash, but don’t carry too much. Since cash isn’t replaceable, if your wallet gets lost or stolen, it could end your trip sooner than planned. Have credit cards on hand but minimize the number of cards you carry. Keep at least one card in a separate location such as a hotel safe, with a companion, or just keep one card in a different pocket as a backup if needed.

Enroll in Mobile Wallet

Make purchases conveniently and avoid using your actual plastic cards with Mobile Wallet. RiverLand debit and credit cards can be securely stored on your smart phone and used for purchases anywhere contactless payments are accepted. Mobile Wallet is secure because your card number is never used, but rather, replaced with a one-time use code for each separate transaction. Using screen lock on your phone provides an additional layer of security against fraud. You can easily enroll your cards with Apple Pay® or Google Pay™.

Set Up eAlerts

Place eAlerts on your accounts before you leave town, so you receive notifications whenever a transaction is processed. eAlerts ensure that your account isn’t used without your knowledge. You can easily set up eAlerts on your accounts within our Free Online Banking.

Carry With Care

Don’t keep your cash, wallet, or phone in your back pocket, purse, or in a backpack. To thieves, wallets mean money and phones mean personal information. Put them in hard-toaccess areas such as in your front pocket, money belt, or antitheft bag. And don’t keep everything together in one place. This will help minimize your risk should one item get lost or stolen.
